India is very rich in terms of flora and fauna. The main reason for that is the different climatic conditions prevailing in India. Let it crops or let it be fruits, almost, everything can be found in different parts of India. Out of all the fruits, India is famous for producing mangoes which are known for their sweetness and unique flavor. It would be interesting to note that India is currently the biggest producer of mangoes in the world. The word mango is derived from the word mangga which is a Malayalam word.

It is interesting that mango is the national fruit of India and not just only India but also of Pakistan. The mango tree is the national tree of Bangladesh and it is also regarded as an unofficial fruit of Phillippines. It is like a juicy stone kind of fruit produced from different types of tropical species of trees in South Asia. Depending on the type of location and type of mango tree, these mangoes differ in their sweetness, taste, color, and size. Throughout the world, the Indian mango is so famous and one can make a lot of delicious dishes from it. Thus, it is truly named as “King of Fruits“. All Indians wait for the arrival of summer so that they can enjoy this fruit. 1. Alphonso Mangoes – Ratnagiri, Maharashtra 


These mangoes are found in the western part of India in Maharashtra. In Maharashtra, these are found in coastal villages of Ratnagiri, Devgarh, Konkan and Raigad. It is one of the most expensive mangoes in India. Devgarh village belongs to the Sindhudurg district and it is located near the Arabian sea. It is known for the sweetness and unadulterated. These mangoes are also called as “Hapus Aam” by the people living in Maharashtra and neighboring states like Gujarat. It is used to make many tasty shakes and smoothies.

2. Kesar Mangoes – Junagadh, Gujarat 


These are also regarded as “Queen of Mangoes” and “Gir Kesar” because they are cultivated in foothills of Girnaur in the districts of Amreli and Junagadh in Gujarat. These are mangoes that are cultivated in some parts of Gujarat especially Saurashtra. These are the type which gives a tough competition to Alphonso mangoes.

3. Dasheri Mangoes – Malihabad, Uttar Pradesh 


This is one of the mangoes that are grown in Northern India, Pakistan, and Nepal. This mango was found in the gardens of Nawabs. It is available during the first week of June to late August. A place named Malihbad in Uttar Pradesh is the largest producer of this variety in our country. These mangoes have a different taste than others so one can easily differentiate between these mangoes. These taste a bit different from others.

4. Himsagar Mangoes – Murshidabad, West Bengal 


Himsagar is a variety of mangoes that is renowned worldwide. Not only taste but this mango variety offers a great and sweet aroma as well. This variety does not contain any kind of fiber in them and also they have three fourth of its portion as pulp. It is also a speciality of states like Odisha (earlier Orissa). It ranks among the top five mangoes cultivated in our country.

5. Chausa Mangoes – Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh 


This variety is found in the place of Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh. It is a great place to visit for mango lovers. From Lucknow, this place is just 110 km away. These are put in the special “sucking” category of mangoes. These are yellow in their appearance and have a great aroma. Another place named Kurukshetra is famous for such varieties of mangoes. This place is historic as the iconic battle between Pandavas and Kauravas happened here. Not only India but it is also produced in some parts of Punjab.

6. Badami Mangoes – North Karnataka 


These are given the title of “Alphonso of Karnataka” because they show great similarity in terms of taste with the variety found in Ratnagiri in Maharashtra. These are available during the first week of April to late June. This variety is mainly grown in a place called Bagalkot. These mangoes have great taste and texture due to which it has a large fan base of people. These mangoes get the name from the Badami city of Karnataka.

7. Safeda Mangoes – Andhra Pradesh 


This mango is also called Bnaganapalli and it is found in the state of Andhra Pradesh. These have a glittering and shining yellow color with a great sweetness in the taste. Like mangoes found in Kolkata, these are also fibreless and are best and most suitable for making shakes and smoothies. They come in big size than most of the other varieties of mangoes found in India. These are also heavy in size with one weighing around 350 gms to 400 gms. It is also a rich source for many vitamins like Vitamin A and Vitamin C. It has been given the designation of “King of The South India Mangoes“. It is found mostly in the Banganpalle town of Karnataka. This variety has a very thin and firm skin. They have literally an amazing taste along with a great aroma.

8. Langra Mangoes – Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh 


Varanasi which was earlier called Banaras is one of the oldest cities in the world. It is one of the most visited places and it is present on the banks of sacred river Ganga. One of the most delicious varieties of mango which is “Langra aam” is cultivated here. It is also known as Malda. It is one of the most popular types of mangoes found in North India. These have a skin tone of lemon-yellow color and these are available during the end of the summer season that is June and July.

9. Totapuri Mangoes – Bangalore, Karnataka 


These mangoes have not only good taste but also good aroma. These are also called as Bangalore or Sandersha mango as these are cultivated in Banglore(Now Bengaluru). These are greenish-yellow with a size looking medium. This variety is also found in many southern states like Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. These mangoes have thick skin with a pointed end.

10. Neelam Mangoes – Andhra Pradesh 


This variety is quite common in different parts of our country but if you want to enjoy the real taste of this variety then you must taste the one grown in Andhra Pradesh. These are available during May, June, and July. They have a significant kind of aroma. These are mostly found in Hyderabad.

But today farmers are using wrong methods to grow these varieties by using excess fertilizer for the sake of more profit. This is no good for our health. So we should check anything before eating and should wash it two to three times at least so that our health is not at stake and we could enjoy the eatable without compromising health.
